Sunderland: Race Riots of 2024

“Last night Sunderland was descended upon by mobs adorned in St George’s cross and homemade balaclavas. Chanting racist and islamaphobic slurs as they took the roads of the city. The reoccurring theme that I am seeing as I continue documenting the civil unrest in the North east, is the huge numbers of children on the frontlines. It has been noticed that young children and teenagers are being passed bricks, missiles and orders by well known and ‘old time’ fascists. Children as young as 6 in crowds with and without their parents, egged on by families and passer-bys around them. I must stress, last night was not a “tiny minority” as many claimed. It was at it lowest 800 people if not thousands at its peak, with every single passerby and car driving past in support of the carnage that unfolded. Fascism in my home-region has become the norm, it has become upheld and supported by swathes of the general public. 

The crowds marched throughout the city, looting asian owned business and others in their path. A crowd gathered at a mosque close to the centre in an attempt to attack it, others descended upon the police office which they torched to the ground along with a taxi they flipped in a targeted and violent hate crime against an Asian driver. They boarded and attacked buses, hurling beer barrels at those who stood in their path. I saw people wearing and tattooed with swastikas marching alongside whole families with pushchairs and picnics, together as the many faces of fascism. The old generation of fascists who have already served time and aren't afraid to serve more alongside the new and fresh faced teenagers, very clearly in training.

Every night that I have documented so far, I have seen not a single person from the media and that is why the full extent of the truth is not getting out. I appreciate all of the messages of concern for my safety but I am well aware of the risks. For me, telling the story of how many in this country seek to eradicate my people and how many more just standby and allow it to unfold, far outweighs the risks. I won’t allow this story only to be told by old white men.”
