"After 17 year old Nahel Merzouk was murdered by French Police on June 27th 2023, the Paris suburb of Nanterre and wider Paris erupted in defiance of state violence and racism. This collection of images follows the morning after the unrest in Nanterre. Nanterre is a place that is very reminiscent of suburbs like Canning town in London as it is situated directly adjacent to a huge finance and business district, much like the business district of Canary Wharf. The murder of Nahel came not Long after the Murder of Chris Le Messie Kaba By police in London, Which was just as Racist & brutal. The response of the community and state however was very different. Martin Blake, the man who murdered Chris Kaba, was found 'not guilty' of Murder and later promoted by the Metropolitan Police. No public disorder followed either the murder or the verdict. Yet, in France things went down very differently. Country wide outrage sparked days of rioting in the name of justice. Florian M, the man who murdered Nahel Merzouk, was held in detention for 5 months and is set to face a murder trial in 2026."
